CPC license and Cat C

 

Main Purpose of the job:

Drive and be responsible for any allocated waste collection vehicle, including safety and routine maintenance checks, reporting vehicular faults and necessary repairs as required.  Also undertake, usually as part of a team, duties connected with delivery of a customer focused service providing complete scheduled removal of household, industrial, commercial, recycling and other designated waste as directed by management

To supervise members of allocated Waste team to ensure efficient and effective use of resources necessary to deliver required service levels

 

Duties and Requirements of the role are:

 

  • Drive and be responsible for the safe, efficient use of any allocated Waste vehicle.  Hold an LGV, clean driving license and report any information that may affect the license.  Duties will include responsibility for daily collection and return of keys, vehicle checks, including routine maintenance and cleaning and the operation of any power equipment which may be fitted and the necessary tipping and transportation of refuse
  • Complete a daily vehicle checklist for any allocated vehicle and notify management and fleet of any vehicle faults
  • Report any accidents involving the vehicle and/or equipment to management and fleet section as necessary
  • Undertake duties connected with removal of household, industrial and commercial refuse, recycling and garden waste from a variety of locations, including tipping vehicle as required during and at end of delivery of daily service
  • Remove all waste from a variety of waste receptacles as instructed via daily work schedule, allocated job tickets and verbal instructions from management.  Working with the Cleansing Section to deliver an efficient service i.e. monitoring street scene and relay findings back to the Environmental Waste Management Team
  • To work flexibly either individually or as part of a team, providing customer-oriented service delivery via various methods, acting as ambassadors for the Borough, projecting a professional image at all times
  • You will be required to achieve the required annual Waste Service Standard of clear up rate at the end of each working day.  It is the responsibility of all workers to work co-operatively to achieve these set targets
  • Monitor sickness, budgets and annual leave request’s in accordance to agreed procedures and co-ordinate with Management to ensure the service is maintained
  • On a daily basis ensure vehicle is ready for use ie fuel, bins and report any vehicle damage. Ensure that the vehicle is washed and cleaned weekly
  • To ensure all that you and the crew adhere to the Health and Safety procedures and policies are adhered to whilst carrying out functions of the role, including wearing full Personal Protective Equipment, signing and being responsible for Health & Safety vehicle held equipment, maintaining equipment to required standards and reporting Health & Safety and related incidents affecting service delivery
  • Maintain contact at all times during shift with managers and other team members via radio and other communication systems such as emails. Including a radio check at the start and end of each shift
  • Bins to be returned inside of the boundary of the property, including closure of bin chamber doors, and any other debris or spillages occurred while emptying bins to be cleared
  • Support the development and implementation of all IT applications.  Drivers are required to attend regular meetings with Management to discuss service objectives
  • All assisted or special collection services to be carried out as per Lewisham guidelines and/or management instructions
  • The job will require you to work in all weather conditions
  • To adhere to the Lewisham Council Fleet Transport User’s Manual and the Operator License requirements
  • Be responsible for completion of all paperwork related to the vehicle and crew, including scheduled round sheets, job tickets, incident, health & Safety and other reports as required
  • Undergo training as required
  • There may be a requirement for shift work, to encompass 24 hour and weekend waste collection in accordance with Service changes
  • Reporting Environmental crime such as of fly tips on a weekly basis using cameras or other mobile technology
  • Clearing of waste surplus to bins when appropriate
  • Cleaning up of spillage generated during their duties
